Pick Your Poison
04/11/2024
Hello again,
I don’t know what it is, but I’ve had a few people talk to me about their life dilemmas this week.
Why they talk to me about these things I have no idea! Am I easy to talk to? Am I trustworthy? Am I a wise old goat? I have no idea!
Either way, I’ll always try my best to listen and help out where I can like a good caring citizen.
Anyway, it seems like some people want one thing, but they also want the opposite as well.
They get trapped and never end up doing anything and forever stay in the same place, the place they think they don’t want to be in.
This leads us to the thought of the week: Pick your poison
Pick your poison
I was having a conversation with one of my colleagues at work earlier this week.
He wants to earn more money which would mean working away from home. Fair enough.
He also wanted to stay at home and spend as much time with his wife and very young daughter as much as possible. Also Fair enough.
But that’s a serious dilemma.
He asked me what I think he should do.
I’m not so sure I’m qualified to answer such a question, but here’s what I said:
“Pick your poison. It’s a tough decision to make, but what do you value the most? Money? Family? Work? No matter what decision you make you’ll probably always doubt if it’s the right one to make, so just pick one and roll with it. It might be wrong, it might be right, that’ll be for you to decide later further down the line.”
What dilemmas are you facing? What poison are you going to choose?

What I’ve been reading
So Good They Can’t Ignore You by Cal Newport
This is without a doubt one of the best books I’ve read over the past few weeks, one I wish I’d read a few years ago.
If you’re struggling to know what to do with your life from a career and work perspective then you have to read So Good They Can’t Ignore You.
You’ll learn why following your passion is terrible advice and what to do if you’re feeling lost and unsatisfied.
It’s a brilliant book by a brilliant author.
What I’ve listened to
Joe Rogan Experience #2219 - Donald Trump
No bullshit, unedited, uncensored, raw, and potentially one of the most important and influential podcasts ever recorded.
An amazing insight into what it’s like being the world’s most powerful leader.
An absolute must-listen!

Hope you’ve had a great week,
See you next time,
